Golden Globe Award goes to … ‘Avatar’

First Golden Globe Awards  held in January 1944 at the 20th Century Fox studios in Los Angeles. The 67th Golden Globe Awards, honoring the best in film and television for 2009, were presented January 17, 2010 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, where they have been held annually since 1961 onwards…to know more about this event click here

Avatar won in both the main headline Globes categories: Best Film and Best Director, putting it on track for a clean sweep of Oscars at the 82nd Academy Awards on March 7. Best Actor: Jeff Bridges for his role as an alky singer in Crazy Heart. Best Actress, at both: Streep for Julie & Julia and Bullock for The Blind Side. (At the Golden Globes, to get more stars to show up, the actors’ awards are split into Comedy/Musical and Drama.) Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz, Inglourious Basterds. Best Supporting Actress: Mo’Nique, Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire.

Friday, 2010 January 15, an annular eclipse of the Sun is visible from within a 300-km-wide track that traverses half of Earth.. The partial solar eclipse can be seen over the UAE from 9.20am to 12.29pm where  in India, the eclipse will start around 11 a.m. from Kerala and end around 3.15 p.m at Mizoram. Trivandrum (at Varkala), Kanyakumari and Dhanushkodi..where you get a proper view of the “Ring of fire”

There will be partial eclipse of the moon on June 26 followed by a total solar eclipse on July 11, 2010 which, however, will not be visible from India .  The last eclipse during the year will be on December 21, a total lunar eclipse, which will also be visible from India . In any given year there are a minimum of two eclipses… India saw this ’Ring of Fire’ last was Nov 22, 1965, and it will not witness such a phenomenon again before June 21, 2020. The next longest annular solar eclipse will be seen in 3043. whaooooooo…i won’t be there for sure…!!!!

The Academy Awards, popularly known as the Oscars, are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS)[1] to recognize excellence of professionals in the film industry, including directors, actors, and writers. The formal ceremony at which the awards are presented is one of the most prominent award ceremonies in the world. It is also the oldest award ceremony in the media, and many other award ceremonies such as the Grammy Awards (for music), Golden Globe Awards (all forms of visual media), and Emmy Awards (for television) are often modeled from the Academy. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences itself was conceived by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio boss Louis B. Mayer.

Last year…A R Rahman proved once again why he is a composer who stands apart in the crowd. He was awarded two Oscar awards, for Best Original Score and Best Song in the movie. It was the song ‘Jai Ho’ which won the much acclaimed award and Rahman provided a glimpse of his brilliance as he performed it live at the Oscars. The other award which he received was for original score in the movie.  The entire team of Slumdog Millionaire was ecstatic after grabbing 8 Oscar awards thereby making it appear like a one sided affair!

As part of its investigation into that incident, Google stumbled onto another scam that was more successful. Google said dozens of activists fighting the Chinese government’s policies fell prey to ruses commonly known as “phishing” or malware. The victims live in the United States, Europe and China, Google said. Only two e-mail accounts were infiltrated in these attacks, Google said, and the intruders were only able to see subject lines and the dates that the individual accounts were created. None of the content written within the body of the e-mails leaked out, Google said. Phishing involves malicious e-mails urging the recipients to open an attachment or visit a link that they’re conned into believing comes from a friend or legitimate company. Clicking on a phishing link of installs malware – malicious software – on to computers. Microsoft’s is connecting Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 for connect-anywhere access using DirectAccess technology

DirectAccess is a way for Windows 7 clients to securely connect the corporate network from any location without  any traditional VPN. It encrypts bidirectional connection between the enterprise domain and the client device prior to the user logging on to the system, allowing admins to manage the remote machine via Group Policy and it physically connected to the network and always stays on. This is very useful for network administrator to troubleshoot the server. Greater functionality means greater hardware and software requirements.

The following list of DirectAccess requirements comes directly from Microsoft TechNet:

One or more DirectAccess servers running Windows Server 2008 R2 with two network adapters:
One connected directly to the Internet, and a second connected to the intranet.
On the DirectAccess server, at least two consecutive, public IPv4 addresses assigned to the network adapter that’s connected to the Internet.

DirectAccess clients running Windows 7.
At least one domain controller and DNS server running Windows Server 2008 SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2.
A public key infrastructure (PKI) to issue computer certificates to the protection for traffic.

IPv6 transition technologies available for use on the DirectAccess server: ISATAP, Teredo, and 6to4. Optionally, DirectAccess runs over IPv6 and only connects to Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2008 with SP2 and most of the network are still on IPv4. In order for DirectAccess to communicate over the Internet, bridging protocols such as 6to4 or Teredo have to be used to encapsulate IPv6 packets over any IPv4 medium or network device.
