Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 Service Pack 1

Microsoft® Forefront Threat Management Gateway (TMG) 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) introduces new features and functionality to Forefront TMG 2010 Standard and Enterprise Editions.
The service pack includes the following new features and feature improvements:

New Reports
• The new User Activity report displays the sites and site categories accessed by any user.
• All Forefront TMG reports have a new look and feel.

Enhancements to URL Filtering
• You can now allow users to override the access restriction on sites blocked by URL filtering. This allows for a more flexible web access policy, in that users can decide for themselves whether to access a blocked site. This is especially useful for websites that have been incorrectly categorized.
• You can now override the categorization of a URL on the enterprise level; the override is then effective for each enterprise-joined array.
• Denial notification pages can now be customized for your organization’s needs.

Enhanced Branch Office Support
• Collocation of Forefront TMG and a domain controller on the same server, which can help reduce the total cost of ownership at branch offices.
• When installed on a computer running Windows Server 2008 R2, SP1 simplifies the deployment of BranchCache at the branch office, using Forefront TMG as the Hosted Cache server.

Support for publishing SharePoint 2010
• Forefront TMG SP1 supports secure publishing of SharePoint 2010.

Sender Policy Framework…need to know about how to protect the Mail spam

If you have not already done so, I highly recommend you create an SPF record for your domain as this will make it much more difficult for spammers to forge your domain in order to spam domains in other organizations.

Sender Policy Framework..WikiPedia Definition

Creating your own SPF record is a relatively simple process, Microsoft even provides a web-based GUI wizard that will help you do this.. Domain holders need to complete an inventory and publish all IP addresses of their outbound email servers in the DNS zone file. This is an administrative step that requires no changes to an organizations email or DNS software. Even if your domain has no outbound email servers, you can help protect your domain from spoofing by publishing an SPF record in the DNS that states this. Microsoft Safety Home Page click here

Why Security Essential (MSE) released by Microsoft for free?

A free anti-malware solution codenamed Morro by the end of 2009. Morro, of course, became known as Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), and as promised it is absolutely free and available to all genuine, XP (32-bit only on XP) and 7 users, and will come in both 32-bit and 64-bit variants. MSE is small, fast, light, and effective, and since it’s built on the same security Platform of other security products you know you can trust it. I’ve been using it and believe me its a good start from Microsoft to protect the entire PC world from Spyware, Malware and Virus…a near perfect security solution.

Far too many PCs are unprotected with out-of-date anti-malware products. Microsoft tells that there are a number of reasons for this. First, because many new PCs come with only time-limited security solutions, some users believe they’re protected even though the initial subscription period may have ended. Some don’t activate the free bundled solution, some can’t or won’t pay for security suites, most of which need to be renewed every year. Meanwhile, the security landscape is evolving. The impact and severity of security threats is increasing and is becoming more professional, with many malware outbreaks aimed specifically at financial fraud. Security software vendors are constantly adapting their products to meet these evolving needs, but these products are often complex and increasingly address a number of non-security tasks.

So MSE comes into this world and is designed to address the needs of users who are often not protected, for one reason or another. From a broad perspective, MSE works side-by-side with Microsoft’s other security technologies, including those built into Windows and accessory products like the Malicious Software Removal Tool, but adding the crucial element of real time protection. It is based on the same trusted and well-regarded security engine that is used by Microsoft’s Forefront line of products. It is incredibly easy to install and use. Microsoft Security Essentials is built on the same award-winning anti-malware technology Microsoft uses in its other security products, including the Forefront family of solutions and Hotmail.

MSE supports several levels of updates. The product itself is updated when needed, periodically, and once installed, these updates are delivered through Microsoft Update. The core engine technology is updated monthly, also via Microsoft Update. Microsoft publishes new signature updates three times each day, but of course signatures can also be updated in real time when needed. The best part of all this is that none of it impacts the user at all. You just install it and forget it. MSE will take care of the rest…..i love this product… you should also download it..all you need is your operating system in your PC should be genuine and this product never expire or ask you to upgrade or never make your system slow down…more info read my previous blog of how to download it
